Hayley Morrison – Horse Racing Journalist

“Horse racing is the love of my life.” – Hayley Morrison.

Born and raised in Barbados, Hayley spent many Saturday afternoons at the Garrison Savannah watching races. Some of her favorite racehorses from the island include Valial, Littleton, Midnight Tornado, Sandford Prince, Alto Jane, and Peace Envoy.

Hayley’s love of horses also saw her taking weekly riding lessons at Big C Stables in Frere Pilgrim, Christ Church.

In 2008, Hayley received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and then pursued a Master of Journalism degree at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University).

Since receiving her Master’s degree, Hayley has worked in the Canadian horse racing industry as a freelance writer for various Canadian, U.S., and Barbadian publications. At the 44th Sovereign Awards, Hayley became the first Barbadian to win a Sovereign Award in the writing category for her story, “Hail to the War Horses.”

Repeating at the 47th Sovereign Awards ceremony, Hayley clinched her second Sovereign Award for her piece, “New Races, New Faces: How I Fell for The Fort.”

Hayley currently lives in Toronto, Canada, with her sidekick, Tuxedo.
